Mist,Clouds, and Autumnal Color 《秋色煙雲》 Artist: H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III H.H.第三世多杰羌佛 Style: Pomo Weiyun 潑墨微韻派
“Mist, Clouds, and Autumnal Color” is a splash-color painting that conveys a very strong sense of flowing watery ink and colors. An air of power and grandeur expressed through clouds that seem to swallow mountains and waters pervades the entire painting. The natural, captivating charm of this scene is similar to the charm of a scene on the ground after a long, flowing river has just rolled by. This setting is embellished with red maple leaves and houses amid autumnal, cloudy mountains, presenting a wonderful image distinctly characteristic of fall. When carefully examining the watery ink that produced such charm, one can see beautiful areas that are themselves paintings within a painting and details that are hidden within rough brushwork. Even within small areas are subtle variations of darkness and light, of the surreal and the real, all the while embodying splendid charm.
This painting is one of the representative splash-color works that H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III created in His youth. It belongs to the “Pomo Weiyun” style of painting. Very tiny signs of charm can be seen amid this large-scale splash-ink painting. Soaring charm and exceptional beauty are words that aptly describe this work. The original version of this painting contains the inscription “Mist, Clouds, and Autumnal Color; Dorje Chang III” and is stamped with the three-dimensional, eight-jewel, gold-inlaid fingerprint seal. There also exists a duplicate that is generally the same as the original. That duplicate contains the inscription “Mist, Clouds, and Autumnal Color; Zhi Wan Yee” but does not contain the fingerprint stamp.
The “Pomo Weiyun” style Although bold and vigorous hues of watery ink are used, a rich charm is evinced that is both subtle and wonderful. 潑墨微韻派——大氣潑辣的水墨色氣,却顯出細微神妙的濃郁韻味。
One of the most superb paintings of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III
The painting “Cat of Unique Charm” was created in 1991 and belongs to the “Fangfa School,” one of the 16 schools of painting founded by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. Except H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, no one else can paint using this marvellous technique. Magical appeal underlies this painting. This creative technique comes from a state of wisdom. That is why it is not an ordinary painting. The accompanying scene near the cat was painted with only a small number of brush strokes yet contains the style of stone seals and an air of scholarship. Both the form and spirit of scene are captured. This work is truly one in which ink was masterfully used in a sparing way. H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III has decided not to make this genre of magically charming paintings anymore. He has not since created another work of unsurpassed artistry in this same genre. Thus, this painting is a form of art that has been discontinued. One of the one hundred limited release copies of this small-scale, painting “Cat of Unique Charm” sold at auction for US$253,000, which is the highest per square foot selling price of any duplicate painting in the world. The prices of sold duplicate paintings by the most famous first-rate masters of art in the world cannot match the prices of sold duplicate paintings by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III.
